Glover Park sits on the west side of Wisconsin Avenue in Northwest DC, north of Burleith and Georgetown and south of Cathedral Heights. Parkland wraps two sides of it: Glover-Archbold Park runs the length of the western edge, and Whitehaven Park closes the south. The result is a compact grid with one commercial avenue on the east and woods on the west, and few through streets in between.
The housing comes in two forms. The interior blocks are lined with porch-front brick rowhouses built mostly in the 1920s and 1930s, along with a handful of semi-detached and detached houses. Along Tunlaw Road, 41st Street and Wisconsin Avenue stand garden-style and mid-rise condominium and co-op buildings, many from the 1950s and 1960s, that hold most of the one- and two-bedroom apartments. Over the past 12 months condominiums and co-ops made up about six in ten sales here, and rowhouses most of the rest.
Daily errands run along Wisconsin Avenue, which carries a Whole Foods, a Trader Joe’s, and a run of restaurants and neighborhood services within a short walk of most blocks. Glover-Archbold Park has a wooded trail that runs north and south through the stream valley, and there are community garden plots on parkland at the neighborhood’s edge. Guy Mason Park, with a softball diamond and a playground, sits just across Wisconsin Avenue south of Calvert Street. Stoddert Elementary and the field beside it are on Calvert Street inside the neighborhood.
There is no Metrorail station in Glover Park. Metrobus does the work instead: the D80 and D82 run on Wisconsin Avenue toward Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, downtown and Union Station, the D96 links Glover Park with Dupont Circle and Bethesda, and the C85 passes through on its way between Foggy Bottom and Tenleytown. The nearest Red Line stations are more than a mile away, so most trips start with a bus, a bike or a car. Street parking is permit-zoned and the rowhouse blocks rarely have driveways, though many have alley access.
I’m glad to walk you through how the rowhouse and condominium markets here differ, which buildings and blocks are trading, and what is coming up for sale.
