Insight into the nuances of buying and selling in one of the country’s most complex urban markets.
The area on this page is the National Harbor Census-designated place, which is wider than the waterfront development. The Potomac River forms the west side, and the Capital Beltway and the Woodrow Wilson Bridge approach mark the north. On the east the line reaches Oxon Hill Road (MD 414), taking in MGM National Harbor and Tanger Outlets near its edge along with some older streets of detached houses. The waterfront district, with its condominium buildings, hotels and retail, sits at the river, and newer townhouse sections stand on the slopes above it.
Road access comes from ramps at the north end that tie into the Capital Beltway (I-95/I-495), I-295 and Oxon Hill Road, with Indian Head Highway (MD 210) nearby. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge puts Alexandria a few minutes away outside peak hours. There is no rail station; Metrobus routes C11 and P90 connect to Metrorail, and a seasonal water taxi crosses to Old Town Alexandria.
Within the waterfront district, restaurants, shops, hotels and the riverside promenade are a short walk from the condominium buildings. Tanger Outlets and MGM National Harbor stand on the hill about a mile from the river. Grocery stores, pharmacies and everyday services are a short drive away, which is how homeowners on the older streets handle most errands.
