Insight into the nuances of buying and selling in one of the country’s most complex urban markets.
The Brandywine census-designated place runs along the southern edge of Prince George’s County, bordered by Clinton and Rosaryville to the north, Croom to the northeast, Cedarville to the southeast, Accokeek to the west and the Charles County line toward Waldorf to the south. Branch Avenue (MD 5) and Crain Highway (US 301) merge near its center, where Brandywine Crossing and most of the new residential communities are located. Brandywine Road, Accokeek Road and Floral Park Road lead to the older village and the rural properties beyond.
Branch Avenue (MD 5) runs north through Clinton to the Capital Beltway and to Branch Avenue station on the Green Line, and Crain Highway (US 301) leads northeast toward Upper Marlboro and south to Waldorf. An interchange replaced the signal at Brandywine Road around 2019. There is no Metrorail station, local bus service is limited, and the combined highway is congested at peak hours.
Brandywine Crossing supplies most daily needs in one place, from groceries and general merchandise to restaurants. The Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex offers pools and fitness facilities. For hospital care, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center is north in Clinton, and Waldorf, a short drive south, has a larger concentration of stores and services.
