Insight into the nuances of buying and selling in one of the country’s most complex urban markets.
Trinidad is bounded by Florida Avenue on the south, West Virginia Avenue and the Gallaudet University campus on the west, Mount Olivet Road on the north and Bladensburg Road on the east. Florida Avenue and Bladensburg Road carry the through traffic and most of the commercial frontage, Montello Avenue and Trinidad Avenue run north to south through the residential core, and the recreation center sits near the middle on Childress Street.
Florida Avenue leads west to NoMa-Gallaudet U station on the Red Line and on toward U Street. Bladensburg Road runs north to New York Avenue and Route 50, and south to Benning Road and H Street. Metrobus routes serve Bladensburg Road and H Street. Union Station is roughly a mile and a half to the southwest for Amtrak, MARC and VRE.
Groceries are at the Giant at 3rd and H streets NE and at the stores around Union Market to the west; the Safeway at Hechinger Mall closed in 2026. The H Street corridor, a few blocks south, has restaurants, a pharmacy and other everyday services. Inside the neighborhood, retail is limited to corner stores and a handful of cafes and restaurants on Florida Avenue, Montello Avenue and Bladensburg Road.
