Reston Town Center is the urban core of Reston, a planned community in Fairfax County conceived by Robert E. Simon Jr. in 1961. The district opened in 1990 and has grown into Northern Virginia’s most concentrated walkable downtown, where residents live above the shops, restaurants, and offices that line Market Street.
Housing here is predominantly vertical. Mid- and high-rise condominiums—Midtown, Stratford House, The Paramount, and the Savoy among them—dominate, alongside a smaller enclave of fee-simple townhomes at West Market and ground-floor retail throughout. This is the densest housing in Reston, a deliberate contrast to the single-family neighborhoods and wooded village centers that surround it.
Daily life centers on Fountain Square and the Mercury Fountain, with a seasonal ice rink, an open-air pavilion, dining, and a movie theater within a few blocks. The Reston Town Center Metro station, on the Silver Line since 2022, connects the district directly to Tysons, Washington, and Dulles Airport.
