Old Town Alexandria is one of the region’s most historic districts, with cobblestone streets, 18th- and 19th-century architecture, independent shops and restaurants along King Street, and a walkable Potomac River waterfront.
The housing is dominated by historic rowhouses and townhouses, many from the late 1700s and 1800s, in Federal, Georgian, and Victorian styles. Some have been converted into condominiums, and newer townhouses and condo buildings add options near the waterfront and the edges of the district. Because of their age, many homes require careful maintenance, and exterior changes fall under the Old and Historic Alexandria District’s review.
Daily life is walkable: King Street’s shops and restaurants, the Torpedo Factory Art Center, the waterfront parks, and a weekend farmers market at Market Square are all close at hand. King Street–Old Town Metro on the Blue and Yellow Lines is at the western end of King Street, and a free trolley runs along the corridor.
Old Town offers historic homes and a walkable waterfront main street, with Metro, National Airport, and DC close by.
