Lyon Village is a residential neighborhood in North Arlington, laid out beginning in 1923 by developer Frank Lyon on former farmland. It sits between Langston Boulevard on the north and the Clarendon and Court House corridor on the south, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The area on this page is approximate: it is drawn around recent sales labeled Lyon Village, and it takes in a few condominium buildings at the edges, including one north of Langston Boulevard on Spout Run Parkway.
Detached houses define the interior streets. Colonial Revival is the most common style, alongside Craftsman bungalows, American Foursquares, Tudor Revival houses, Cape Cods and a number of Sears kit houses. Newer and much larger houses have replaced some original ones, which is why detached prices span a wide range. Detached sales in the past 12 months had a median near $1,855,000. Townhouses near the edges sold at a median around $1,110,000, and the edge condominium buildings sold at a median near $289,000.
Daily errands run south. The restaurants, grocery stores and shops of Clarendon and Court House are a few blocks beyond the neighborhood’s southern edge, and a shopping center sits along Langston Boulevard to the north. Lyon Village Park on North Highland Street has a picnic area, lighted tennis and basketball courts and a sprayground open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. James Hunter Park, on North Hartford Street at the southern edge near Clarendon, adds a lawn, gardens and an adjacent dog park, and the Colonial Revival community house, completed in 1949, hosts meetings and events.
Clarendon and Court House stations on the Orange and Silver lines are just outside the area, to the south and southeast. Langston Boulevard and Spout Run Parkway lead toward the George Washington Parkway, Key Bridge and Interstate 66, and Capital Bikeshare docks are close by. The trade-off for this location is traffic and activity along the commercial edges, and street parking that tightens near Clarendon.
I’m glad to walk you through recent sales street by street and help you weigh an original house against a newer build.
