North Bethesda is an unincorporated part of Montgomery County between Bethesda to the south and the City of Rockville to the north. This guide follows the census-designated place, which sits largely between Interstate 270 on the west and Rock Creek on the east, north of the Capital Beltway. Most homes here carry Rockville or Bethesda mailing addresses, and a smaller number use North Bethesda or Kensington.
The housing is unusually mixed. Condominiums make up a little under half of recent sales, from 1960s high-rises at Grosvenor Park to newer buildings near the North Bethesda station. Detached houses are close behind, in subdivisions such as Luxmanor, Old Farm, Timberlawn, Garrett Park Estates and Randolph Hills. Townhomes account for roughly one sale in six, including long-standing communities and recent construction such as Amalyn near the Interstate 270 spur.
Rockville Pike, Maryland Route 355, is the commercial spine. Pike & Rose, a mixed-use district built on the former Mid-Pike Plaza, combines shops, restaurants, a cinema and apartments, and Montrose Crossing and Federal Plaza add grocery and big-box retail. The Music Center at Strathmore and the Strathmore mansion host concerts and exhibitions beside the Grosvenor-Strathmore station. The Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center and the Rock Creek stream valley trails provide recreation.
Two Red Line stations sit inside the community: North Bethesda, which was called White Flint until 2022, and Grosvenor-Strathmore. Twinbrook station is at the northern edge. Metrobus routes M42 and M44 run from North Bethesda station east along Randolph Road toward College Park and Hyattsville Crossing. Drivers reach Interstate 270 from Montrose Road and Old Georgetown Road, and the Capital Beltway from Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Road. Traffic on Rockville Pike is heavy at peak hours, which is the main trade-off for the convenience of the corridor.
